New informational pass in goals_lint (stem-sibling repair heuristic): a
live-tier reference to a version-suffixed filename that is MISSING while a
same-stem sibling exists on disk warns, naming the sibling(s) - the drift
signature of manually-versioned module bumps (libunknown), magic-scheme
conversions (config) and stamped bootsupport/vendored renames (fauxlink),
exactly the classes fixed in the preceding hygiene commit. References with no
stem-sibling stay quiet (proposed goals legitimately name future artifacts);
archive tier, globs, URLs, absolute paths and 999999.0a1.0 exempt; warnings
never fatal (Scope is contract text - the fix stays a directed edit).
Verified: clean on the current tree (incl. correctly-silent existing legacy
artifacts) and against a synthetic fixture exercising warn + all five silent
classes with per-file dedupe.
GOALS.md: front matter bumped v2 -> v3; version-section policy broadened per
user direction - bump for ANY change that could affect how an LLM interprets
or uses the system (contract, grammar, tooling behaviour, output shape);
liberal bumping endorsed. Format section gains Scope version-reference
guidance (glob or magic-version filename for stamped files; exact versions
only in dated prose). goals/AGENTS.md Verification describes the new check;
src/modules/AGENTS.md manual-versioning bullet gains bump step (4): the doc
reference sweep.

Layout make.tcl copies are punkcheck-synced build outputs - they refresh via
the normal sync channels in the acceptance build, never hand-edited.

Completes the user's conversion of punk::mix::base from manual
versioning to the magic-version mechanism: header Meta block + magic
provide block in base-999999.0a1.0.tm, version history relocated to the
new base-buildversion.txt (0.1.2 - same version, mechanism-only
change). The file RENAME itself landed one commit early (ab3e1a45)
via the staged index riding an unrelated commit - net effect is the
repo's preferred move-then-edit sequence, recorded here for clarity.
src/modules/AGENTS.md: punk::libunknown is now the only manually
versioned module; base noted as converted 2026-07-21.
Bootsupport syncs from the rebuild ride along: base-0.1.2.tm restamped
from the converted source; libunknown comment catch-up
(runtime.cmd -> punk-runtime.cmd reference).
Conversion verified: make.tcl modules builds base-0.1.2.tm from the
magic-versioned source under Tcl 9.0.3 and 8.7a6 (the original build
failure was the unrelated pre-c971e6c7c4 zipfs mkzip dotfile defect,
fixed by cli 0.5.2's fallback in ab3e1a45).

A word rejected by an OPTIONAL argument's allocation screen (G-071
restricted-choice screen, or the basic int/double/bool/number/dict type
screen) that subsequently overflows the argument list now reports the
specific rejection instead of "Received more values than can be assigned":
- choiceviolation naming the word and allowed choices, with -badarg/-badval
and the final-validation message template (Leading/Trailing argument
attribution), for choice-screen rejections
- typemismatch naming the declared (normalized) type, with -badarg/-badval,
for basic-type screen rejections
Mechanism: private::get_dict_can_assign_value returns a 'rejection' record
(single-member clauses only; literal-category mismatches deliberately not
recorded); get_dict_form collects first-rejection-per-word from the three
allocation call sites (leader/value split trial, leaders loop, values loop)
into a per-form store; the two toomanyarguments raise sites prefer a
recorded rejection for the unassignable word. Genuinely-surplus words still
report toomanyarguments; words consumed by later slots parse unchanged;
multiform selection (rank_form_failures) untouched.
errorselection.test _GAP pins flipped to the pointed expectations (pre-fix
behaviour pinned in the previous commit). punk::args buildversion
0.12.0 -> 0.12.1.
Closeout: G-082 flipped achieved + archived (index -> GOALS-archive.md,
detail -> goals/archive/ with mechanism/verification/residue recorded);
G-073 note updated to point at the new rejection-record seam;
src/modules/AGENTS.md authoring-ergonomics bullet re-documented (-optional 0
workaround no longer needed on >= 0.12.1; make.tcl keeps it - it runs
against the bootsupport 0.12.0 snapshot). Project version 0.12.28 +
CHANGELOG.
Verified: full punk/args suite 228/224/0-failed (4 intended skips) and
punk/ns 57/57 under Tcl 9.0.3; errorselection.test 7/7 under Tcl 8.7;
make.tcl frobnicate still pointed; goals_lint clean.

New proposed goal G-082: single-form parse error selection should prefer an
optional argument's specific choice/type rejection over the generic
"more values than can be assigned" overflow (regression vs punk::args 0.5.0
found while dogfooding in G-030; the -optional 0 workaround sites in make.tcl
and the AGENTS authoring-ergonomics bullet are flagged for revisiting when it
ships).
Sibling notes parked in existing proposed goals:
- G-028: make.tcl's name-only process-sweep misidentification (unrelated
same-named executables) - full-path matching rides the same
process-identification infrastructure as the locker report.
- G-025: punk-exe-hosted make.tcl runs the kit's pre-loaded module copies, not
bootsupport snapshots - a self-report surface for running-interp module
provenance would make the mixing observable.
- G-073: reciprocal relation to G-082 (both want the "surface the specific
rejection" seam in validation error reporting).
- G-075: synopsis renders the definition id rather than @cmd -name - consider
a fallback for non-command ids when reworking id rendering.

Fixes the constructed-definition indent leak user review spotted in
'make.tcl help' output (@cmd -help Description first line rendered less
indented than continuations): HELPTEXTS and the inline shell/help/toplevel
help values are now block-form (first value line whitespace-only) with a bare
@normalize in every constructed definition, per G-045's preferred style. The
braced option fragments never leaked (literal block-shaped parts get
file-style normalization) and head-form values are contractually untouched by
@normalize. Also adds a define-time capability probe (punk::args::get_spec on
representative ids inside the guarded block) so a stale punk::args that
accepts the raw text but cannot resolve a mechanism (e.g pre-@normalize
snapshots) degrades to the plain fallback immediately instead of erroring at
first parse.
AGENTS infrastructure for future documentation work: src/modules/AGENTS.md
"Documentation And Comments" gains a "punk::args definition authoring
ergonomics" subsection (G-045 mechanisms: @normalize + block form for
constructed defs, -unindentedfields, -& record continuation, container
quoting rules; plus the G-030 lessons: explicit @form -synopsis for
script-level ids, -optional 0 for pointed choiceviolation errors);
src/AGENTS.md cross-references it and names ::punkboot::argdoc as the
in-tree constructed-def exemplar. Follow-up recorded in the G-030 archive.
Verified: flush Description rendering for toplevel/subcommand/shell/help
usage; dispatch, degraded mode (PUNKBOOT_PLAIN) and usage-error paths
re-verified; layout make.tcl copies re-synced via 'make.tcl bootsupport
-confirm 0' (punkcheck channel); goals_lint unchanged (only the pre-existing
G-078/G-081 index-mirror findings).

All 15 make.tcl subcommands are punk::args-declared ((script)::punkboot +
(script)::punkboot::<sub>, built from single-source summary/help/opt dicts with
shared option fragments and explicit @form -synopsis). Bare make.tcl / -help,
'help ?subcommand?' and '<subcommand> -help' render tabled usage; invalid
flags/subcommands raise punk::args usage errors (exit 1) with unambiguous
prefix resolution; 'shell' is a declared passthrough.
Prompt policy: new -confirm 0|1 (default 1) on every confirmation point
(bootsupport minor-staleness gate, vfscommonupdate REPLACE, kit-type mismatch).
Default prompts only on an interactive terminal and aborts fast with guidance
on non-interactive stdin (::punkboot::lib::stdin_is_interactive; Tcl 8.6 lacks
the -inputmode probe and is assumed interactive). -confirm 0 proceeds
(staleness, REPLACE) or skips the mismatched kit. The piped-y agent workflow is
retired; the old vfscommonupdate decline half-abort (printed done, exit 0) now
exits 1.
Degrade rule: punk::args/punk::ansi/textblock boot requires guarded; definition
load caught with fallback to a self-contained scan (-k/-dirty-abort/-confirm
supported) + plain punkboot_gethelp (availability NOTE factored into
punkboot_availability_note, shared by both paths); rendering degrades
independently of parsing (errorstyle minimal / plain help when the ANSI stack
is unhealthy); PUNKBOOT_PLAIN=1 forces degraded mode. punk::args joins the
bootstrap-tracked _runtime_deps staleness set (parsing contract only - the
rendering stack degrades instead; contract docs updated in
src/bootsupport/AGENTS.md + src/modules/AGENTS.md, workflow docs in
src/AGENTS.md + src/tests/shell/AGENTS.md).
Verified: usage/help/error paths, vfscommonupdate fail-fast and -confirm 0 runs
with closed stdin, staleness flag route live (args 0.5.0->0.12.0 tripped the
gate), degraded-mode help/check/info, full 'project -k -confirm 0' kit build.
Dogfooding finding recorded in the goal file: punk::args 0.12.0 reports generic
overflow where 0.5.0 reported choiceviolation for optional-choice mismatches
(worked around with required leaders; candidate error-selection improvement).

Verified nothing depends on the old version or filename before renaming:
all 'package require punk::libunknown' sites are unversioned; punk_main.tcl
and punk::repl locate the module by globbing libunknown-*.tm and picking the
highest by vcompare (so the renamed dev copy now also outversions the stale
bootsupport and project.vfs 0.1 copies deterministically, instead of relying
on tm path order for a same-version tie); bootsupport's
include_modules.config lists it by name only.
The 0.2.0 number retroactively versions the two changes shipped against the
0.1 filename earlier today (register_all_tm deep discovery - a minor API
addition - and the source_pkgindex sourcing-scope fix). A version-history
comment block in the module header now substitutes for the buildversion.txt
changelog other modules carry.
src/modules/AGENTS.md: the punk::libunknown exception bullets now spell out
the manual-versioning mechanics for agents - same Patch/Minor/Major bump
rules as buildversion-tracked modules, executed as a file rename plus Meta
line, manpage_begin, provide-block and version-history updates, with a
check for exact-version/filename dependents before any first bump.
discovery.test/libsearch.test: the source-tree libunknown locator now picks
the highest libunknown-*.tm by vcompare instead of plain lsort (robust to
future version bumps). Verified live in punk902z src: package provide
reports 0.2.0, register_all_tm present, lib.search deep discovery intact.
Suites green under tclsh90 and tclsh87. Build artifacts synced (root
modules/ and _vfscommon.vfs carry only libunknown-0.2.0.tm).
punkshell 0.10.2. Stale 0.1 copies remain in src/bootsupport/modules
(pending 'make.tcl bootsupport') and src/vfs/project.vfs (pending layout
maintenance) - both now cleanly outversioned at runtime.

Per-console facts are now visible to every thread of a punk session: the
default console {stdin stdout} keeps its legacy namespace variables as
authoritative local storage, with write traces mirroring every write
(including direct variable writes) into tsv punk_console_facts; non-default
consoles store facts only in tsv with owner-qualified keys (non-std channel
names are thread-local and would otherwise alias). console_fact_set from a
non-owner thread forwards to the owning thread (vt52-alias transport) and
always writes the tsv mirror itself (covers unreachable or older-version
owners). New console_fact_clear for tests/maintenance.
New console ownership registry (console_owner_register/get/forget, tsv
punk_console_owners keyed by canonical {in out} pair): ownership is captured
when an opunk::console instance is anchored - via the new pluggable
::opunk::console::lifecycle_callback (opunk::console 0.4.0, base class
unchanged) wired by ensure_object_integration - and by default_console.
Consult-time liveness validation clears entries for exited threads. For
{stdin stdout} first registration wins and only the owner's forget releases
the entry, so a thread anchoring a local view cannot steal ownership.
dec_has_mode/ansi_has_mode caches moved to tsv punk_console_modecache
(single-key atomic entries shared process-wide).
Infrastructure tsv arrays are now punk_-prefixed to avoid collisions with
application tsv usage in subshells: console -> punk_console (is_raw), with
call-site patches in punk::repl 0.2.1, punk::lib 0.2.1, punk::basictelnet
0.1.1 (rule recorded in src/modules/AGENTS.md; legacy repl/codethread_*/
zzzload_pkg* arrays left for a coordinated follow-up).
punk::console is now loadable in secondary threads without ::argv0
(powershell consolemode fallback guarded).
Tests: consolefacts gains ownership-registry and cross-thread visibility
coverage (worker-thread punk::console load, trace-mirror, forwarded set with
deadline-polled sync - see comments re runtests child-interp topology);
cleanups use console_fact_clear / tsv instead of poking removed internal
stores. Full suite passes (baseline exec-14.3 only).
G-007 flipped proposed -> active (user-confirmed); remaining acceptance work
is the choke-point brokering slice.

The Documentation section clarifies that 'user-facing' includes developer-facing utility procs. A new 'Argument Order In PUNKARGS' section explains the distinction between @leaders, @opts, and @values and why putting a leading argument in @values produces an incorrect synopsis. Verification section adds a check for PUNKARGS argdoc blocks on new procs. The interp_sync.test file contains 6 tcltest tests for the new punk::lib helper procs.
